Unforgettable Utah: Elevating Your Blog and Your Fitness Journey from Conference to Canyons

The next week and a half promise to be an incredible blend of professional development, team bonding, and exhilarating outdoor adventure! Our team — Linley, Emily, and myself — is embarking on an exciting journey to Utah, starting with the highly anticipated Everything Food Conference (EFC) in Salt Lake City. This marks our very first official team retreat, and the anticipation is absolutely palpable. We are thrilled to immerse ourselves in a dynamic environment of learning and collaboration, laying the groundwork for exciting new initiatives. This retreat is not just about professional growth but also about strengthening our team’s synergy and creative flow in a new and inspiring setting.

Adding to the excitement, our esteemed colleague Davida will also be attending the EFC conference. Together, we are co-hosting a Mastermind Workshop specifically designed to help bloggers take their platforms to the next level. Many of you might remember The Blogger Project – well, we’re bringing those insightful strategies and actionable advice into a real-time, interactive setting. This workshop offers a unique opportunity for attendees to gain personalized guidance, share experiences, and develop concrete plans to enhance their blogging success. We believe in fostering a community of growth, and this workshop is a testament to that commitment, aiming to empower every participant with the tools and confidence needed to thrive in the digital space. The conference itself is a powerhouse of knowledge, running from Thursday through Saturday, packed with sessions, networking events, and inspirational speakers covering the latest trends and techniques in food blogging and content creation.

From Conference Halls to Canyon Walls: Moab Beckons

As soon as the conference concludes on Saturday night, our adventure takes a thrilling turn. We’ll be hitting the road, driving approximately three hours south to the breathtaking landscape of Moab, Utah. Known globally as the adventure capital of the Southwest, Moab serves as the perfect gateway to some of America’s most spectacular national parks, including the majestic Canyonlands National Park and the iconic Arches National Park. The transition from the bustling energy of the conference to the serene grandeur of Utah’s red rock country promises to be an unforgettable experience, offering a perfect balance of intellectual stimulation and physical exploration.

While we haven’t solidified our exact hiking itineraries just yet, our primary goal is to deeply explore both Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. The sheer scale and beauty of these parks, with their towering sandstone arches, vast canyons, unique geological formations, and panoramic vistas, are truly awe-inspiring. We envision spending our days traversing trails that offer unparalleled views, discovering hidden gems, and capturing the stunning beauty of the American Southwest through photography. The thought of witnessing a sunrise over Mesa Arch in Canyonlands or hiking among the delicate but immense formations of Arches National Park is incredibly exciting. These parks offer a diverse range of trails, from gentle walks suitable for all skill levels to more challenging backcountry routes that promise an exhilarating workout amidst nature’s wonders and provide endless opportunities for adventure and reflection.

We know many of our readers are seasoned hikers and intrepid travelers, and we would absolutely love to tap into your collective wisdom! If you’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent Moab area, we are eagerly seeking your recommendations. Please share any hiking tips – from must-see trails and viewpoints to lesser-known spots, best times to visit specific areas to avoid crowds, or essential gear for navigating the desert terrain. We’re also keen to hear your favorite restaurant recommendations for fueling up after a long day of exploration. What are the best places for local cuisine, or perhaps a relaxing spot for a post-hike meal? Your insights are invaluable as we plan our “MN TAKES UTAH” adventure, aiming to make the most of every moment in this extraordinary destination. Whether it’s advice on the best time of day to tackle specific trails, tips for stargazing, or suggestions for any other unique Moab experiences, every piece of advice helps us craft an even more memorable journey.

Stay Fit On The Go: The Ultimate 45-Minute Ass and Abs Travel Workout

Balancing travel with fitness can sometimes be a challenge, but it’s a commitment we always strive to uphold. To conclude this post, and to ensure we stay active and energized during our Utah excursion, I wanted to share a dynamic workout routine that we’ll be incorporating into our trip. One of my favorite strategies for maintaining fitness while traveling is to adapt formats from our regular gym sessions, like those from our beloved Switch gym, for environments with limited equipment. This specific “Ass and Abs” workout is a prime example; it’s a killer routine we tackled a few weeks ago at Switch, and it proved to be incredibly effective and challenging, leaving us feeling strong and accomplished.

The beauty of this 45-minute Ass and Abs workout lies in its versatility and intensity. Designed to work both your core and glutes comprehensively, it brilliantly combines strength-building movements with explosive plyometrics. This synergistic approach ensures an ultimate burn, targeting multiple muscle groups for maximum efficiency and results. A strong, stable core is fundamental for overall body stability, posture, balance, and preventing injuries, especially vital for hiking rugged trails and navigating various terrains. Similarly, powerful glutes are essential for athletic performance, lower body strength, and supporting the spine. By integrating both these critical elements, this workout not only sculpts and tones but also significantly enhances functional strength and endurance, preparing you for any adventure.

Crucially, most of the moves in this routine are entirely modifiable. This means they can be performed effectively using just your body weight, or with minimal equipment typically found in a standard hotel gym – think a pair of light to moderate dumbbells, if available, or even common items like a sturdy chair for support. This adaptability makes it an ideal travel workout, eliminating excuses and empowering you to maintain your fitness routine no matter where your adventures take you. Whether you’re in a hotel gym, an Airbnb, or even a spacious outdoor area with a scenic view, you can get a phenomenal workout that challenges your entire lower body and core, helping you stay consistent with your fitness goals even away from home.

The Ultimate 45-Minute Ass and Abs Travel Workout

This workout is structured into three distinct circuits, each designed to maximize your effort and engagement while providing a full-body challenge with a focus on your lower body and core. Each circuit comprises four powerful moves. The key is to perform each move for one full minute before seamlessly transitioning directly into the next. Once you’ve completed all four moves in a circuit, you’ll earn a well-deserved one-minute rest period. To truly challenge your muscles and cardiovascular system, you will complete each circuit a total of three times before moving on to the next set of exercises. This structure ensures a comprehensive and efficient workout, keeping your heart rate elevated and muscles engaged throughout, promoting both strength and endurance.

Circuit One — Repeat 3 Times

  1. Dumbbell Single Leg Deadlift: (30 seconds on each side) — Focus on balance, hamstring, and glute activation. Keep your back straight and core engaged. If no dumbbells are available, use bodyweight or even a water bottle for light resistance to maintain form.
  2. Plank Shoulder Taps: Start in a strong plank position, tapping opposite shoulders while keeping hips as stable as possible to challenge core stability.
  3. Dumbbell Front Squat + Calf Raise: Engage quads and glutes during the squat, then push through the balls of your feet for an explosive calf activation. A bodyweight squat with a calf raise is a great modification.
  4. Woodchop Sit Up: Targets obliques and upper abs with a rotational movement. Can be done with bodyweight or a light dumbbell/water bottle for added resistance, mimicking a chopping motion.
  5. REST: (1 minute) — Use this time to catch your breath and prepare for the next round.

Circuit Two — Repeat 3 Times

  1. Single Leg Plyo Lunges: (30 seconds on each side) — Explosive power for glutes and quads. Aim for height and soft landings. Modify to regular single-leg lunges for a lower impact, but still challenging, option.
  2. Plank Army Crawl: A dynamic plank variation that builds core strength and shoulder stability as you “crawl” forward on your forearms. Perform on knees if needed for modification.
  3. Single Leg Glute Bridge + Toe Touch: (30 seconds on each side) — Isolate glute activation by lifting hips, followed by a toe touch for an added core challenge and hip flexor stretch.
  4. Plank Weighted Pass: If weights are available, place a dumbbell to one side and pass it from hand to hand under your body while maintaining a strict plank. Without weights, focus on maintaining a strict plank hold or performing plank jacks.
  5. REST: (1 minute) — Hydrate and get ready for Circuit Three.

Circuit Three — Repeat 3 Times

  1. Front Lunge + Lat Pulls: Step forward into a lunge while mimicking a lat pulldown motion. If you have resistance bands, use them; otherwise, focus on strong muscle contraction with body tension.
  2. Squat + Donkey Kicks: Combine a regular squat with alternating leg donkey kicks at the top of the movement, effectively targeting and sculpting the glutes.
  3. Dumbbell Chop and Twist: A powerful full-body rotational move targeting obliques and core. Can be performed with a dumbbell, medicine ball, or simply bodyweight, focusing on a strong, controlled twist.
  4. Reverse Crunch + Twist: Focus on lower abs and obliques, lifting your hips off the floor and twisting them side-to-side at the top.
  5. REST: (1 minute) — Final rest before you’ve conquered this routine!

This comprehensive workout is designed to take you approximately 45-50 minutes to complete, including all rest periods. The fantastic aspect is that a significant number of these exercises can be performed with absolutely no weights at all, yet still deliver an incredibly effective and challenging workout. This makes it the perfect go-to routine for staying active and feeling strong, no matter your location or access to gym equipment. We are definitely integrating this dynamic routine into our daily schedule during our exciting trip to Moab, ensuring we’re energized and ready for all the adventures that await, from tackling challenging hikes to simply enjoying the stunning natural beauty!
