The journey to a healthier, fitter you is often intertwined with life’s adventures. Recently, I returned from an unforgettable cruise, and it took a good four days for my body to truly recalibrate to solid ground. That lingering sensation of swaying from side to side, mimicking the gentle rock of the ship, was a curious reminder of the incredible experience. My partner, Blake, also shared this unique post-cruise phenomenon, which only added a touch of humor to our re-entry into daily life.
It brings me immense joy to know that so many of you, our dedicated FFF readers, share a similar passion for staying active and working out even while on vacation. This commitment to wellness, even amidst relaxation, truly makes a fitness enthusiast proud! For me, maintaining my fitness routine was a top priority during this trip. My personal goal was to complete five workouts out of the eight days on board, and I am thrilled to report that I absolutely crushed it. This dedication didn’t detract from my vacation enjoyment; instead, it enhanced it, proving that fitness and fun can coexist harmoniously during your travels.
Understanding how to integrate fitness into a packed vacation schedule can be a challenge, but with a bit of planning and determination, it’s entirely achievable. My cruise workout schedule was a blend of cardio and strength training, carefully balanced to keep me energized without feeling overwhelmed. Here’s a glimpse into how I structured my fitness on the open seas, demonstrating that even a vacation can be an opportunity for growth and strength:
- Sunday: A well-deserved Rest Day to recharge and prepare for the week ahead.
- Monday: Kicking off the week with a 15-minute invigorating run, immediately followed by a comprehensive Full Body Weights session. This combined approach boosted my cardiovascular health and built foundational strength.
- Tuesday: Diving into a challenging Full Body Toner session, specifically a Body Shred Bootcamp style workout. These high-intensity, full-body routines are perfect for maximizing effort and results in a shorter timeframe.
- Wednesday: An active morning with a refreshing 3-mile run, followed by a leisurely 45-minute walk on the track with my friend Monique. This offered a perfect blend of cardio endurance and social activity.
- Thursday: Another Rest Day, crucial for muscle recovery and enjoying the various amenities the cruise had to offer.
- Friday: Back to the intensity with another Body Shred Bootcamp. This particular session is the exact workout we’ll be sharing in detail below, promising a fantastic challenge!
- Saturday: Concluding the week with yet another dynamic Body Shred Bootcamp. This workout will be unveiled soon, so stay tuned for more exciting routines.
- Sunday: A final Rest Day before disembarking, allowing for full recovery and reflection on a successful week of fitness and fun.
You might be thinking I’m crazy for working out diligently on vacation, but rest assured, I always make sure to carve out ample time for pampering and relaxation too! Our cruise experience included a phenomenal spa day, which was nothing short of amazing. The Princess Regal truly excels when it comes to its spa facilities, offering an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling ship. Consider this: with approximately 3,000 passengers aboard (that’s 800 more people than Blake’s entire hometown!), all seeking a well-deserved break, a significant number are undoubtedly looking for some serious R&R. Blake and I opted for a couples massage – I indulged in a classic full body massage, while Blake chose a deep tissue treatment to target his specific needs. I must confess, I completely drifted off into a blissful sleep during my session. Insert

Beyond the spa, we were also granted complimentary day passes to The Sanctuary, arguably the most serene and exclusive part of the entire boat. I genuinely wished we could have spent every single minute in that tranquil haven! The Sanctuary is impeccably equipped with a dedicated wait staff, offering personalized service, and features incredibly comfortable reclining chairs that invite ultimate relaxation. To further enhance the experience, refreshing fresh citrus water is readily available. What truly sets The Sanctuary apart is its intentional separation from the main areas of the ship, creating an atmosphere of profound calm and extreme tranquility. It’s the perfect escape for those seeking peace and quiet, allowing you to truly unwind and rejuvenate.

Having shared the philosophy of balanced vacation wellness, it’s time to dive into the core of our fitness discussion. Without further ado, allow me to present the second dynamic workout from the Body Sculpt Series that I diligently performed aboard the ship. This routine is designed to effectively challenge your entire body, boost your metabolism, and help you build lean muscle, all within a focused timeframe. Prepare to elevate your strength and endurance with this engaging circuit!

Rock Your Bod Circuit: Your Ultimate Body Sculpt Series Workout
This interval-based body sculpt circuit is structured to progressively challenge your strength and endurance. The core principle involves performing a set number of repetitions for each exercise without rest, completing one full circuit, then taking a brief recovery, and repeating the circuit with a reduced number of repetitions. This descending ladder approach keeps your muscles guessing and your metabolism firing. Remember to maintain proper form throughout and listen to your body.
Workout Structure: Perform each exercise for the specified number of repetitions with no breaks in between. Once you’ve completed all exercises in a circuit, rest for 30 seconds. Then, move immediately into the next round, decreasing the repetitions for each exercise as follows: Round 1: 16 reps, Round 2: 14 reps, Round 3: 12 reps, Round 4: 10 reps, Round 5: 8 reps, Round 6: 6 reps. This systematic reduction in reps allows for continuous intensity while progressively pushing your limits.
1. Clean + Press (Dumbbell): This powerful compound movement targets your legs, core, shoulders, and triceps, offering a full-body engagement.
How to Perform: Begin with your feet hip-width distance apart, holding a single dumbbell in your right hand. Lower down into a controlled squat, keeping your chest lifted, back straight, and core engaged. Briefly tap the dumbbell to the ground between your feet. As you powerfully stand back up, explosively pull the dumbbell upwards, rotating your wrist to “catch” it at shoulder height (goal post position). Immediately transition into a one-arm shoulder press, extending your arm fully overhead. Lower the dumbbell back to the shoulder and then return to the squat position to begin the next rep.
Important Note: Complete all repetitions for the current round on your right side first (e.g., 16 reps on the right), then switch and perform the same number of repetitions on your left side (e.g., 16 reps on the left) before moving to the next exercise. Focus on controlled, explosive movements.
2. Mountain Climbers: A dynamic exercise that rapidly elevates your heart rate while strengthening your core, shoulders, and hip flexors.
How to Perform: Start in a strong plank position. Ensure your shoulders are stacked directly over your wrists, your feet are hip-width distance apart, and your spine forms one long, straight line from head to heels. Engage your core tightly. Rapidly pull your right knee towards your chest, then quickly switch and pull your left knee towards your chest, in a continuous, alternating motion. Maintain a stable torso, preventing your hips from swaying or lifting excessively.
Tip: The faster and more controlled your movements, the more intense and effective this exercise will be for cardiovascular conditioning and core strength.
3. Alternating 1-Arm Row + Push-Up (with Dumbbell): This advanced compound exercise combines chest and triceps strength with back development and core stability, adding an extra dimension with the side plank.
How to Perform: Position yourself in a plank, holding a dumbbell in your right hand. Ensure your shoulders are directly over your wrists, feet are hip-width apart, and your body is in a straight line. Lower down into a full push-up, leading with your chest and keeping your neck long and neutral. Push back up to the plank position. Once back in plank, perform a one-arm row with your right arm, pulling the dumbbell towards your rib cage while keeping your elbow close to your body. As you complete the row, smoothly transition by opening your body into a side plank, stacking your feet and extending your left arm towards the ceiling. Return to the plank position to prepare for the next rep.
Important Note: For this exercise, distribute the repetitions evenly between sides within each round. For example, if it’s the “16-rep round,” perform 8 repetitions on your right side (push-up, right-arm row, right-side plank) and then immediately perform 8 repetitions on your left side (push-up, left-arm row, left-side plank) before proceeding to the next exercise.
4. Static Squat (Dumbbell Hold): An isometric hold that powerfully strengthens your quadriceps, glutes, and core, building incredible muscular endurance.
How to Perform: Stand with your feet hip-width distance apart, holding a single dumbbell at chest or shoulder height with both hands. Keeping your chest lifted, shoulders pulled back, and core engaged, lower down into a squat position. Aim for your thighs to be parallel to the ground, or as low as comfortably possible while maintaining good form. Extend your arms straight out in front of you, holding the dumbbell at shoulder height. Maintain this static squat position for the duration of the current round (e.g., hold for 16 seconds in the first round, 14 seconds in the second, and so on). Focus on consistent breathing and a strong, unwavering posture throughout the hold.
Tip: For added challenge, try to keep your weight slightly back in your heels, engaging your glutes even more deeply.
