Lorissa’s Kitchen’s Nantucket: A Fit Foodie’s Island Expedition

Nantucket, an iconic island off the coast of Cape Cod, truly embodies its quintessential New England charm. Picture pristine white cedar shingles adorning historic homes, a vibrant array of quaint mom-and-pop shops lining cobblestone streets, and breathtaking, sun-kissed beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. This recent trip marked my return to the East Coast after a significant hiatus, and venturing beyond the bustling metropolises of Washington D.C. and New York City offered a distinctly different, refreshing experience. I was incredibly fortunate to be invited by one of my cherished brand partners, Lorissa’s Kitchen, alongside three of my closest blogging companions, to a truly special event they were co-sponsoring with Real Simple Magazine. This grand occasion was none other than the illustrious Boston Pops on Nantucket, a phenomenal fundraising event held in invaluable support of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Envision an evening brimming with an extraordinary culinary journey, beginning with exquisite Lorissa’s Kitchen pairings of artisanal meats, fine wines, and gourmet cheeses, culminating in an unforgettable dinner served right on the beach, all set to the magnificent sounds of the Boston Pops orchestra and a live performance by the legendary Kenny Loggins himself. It was a truly surreal and magical experience that exceeded all expectations.

Before diving into the full recap of our amazing adventure, I must extend a heartfelt and immense thank you to Real Simple Magazine and Lorissa’s Kitchen. They were truly exceptional hosts, orchestrating every detail of our visit with impeccable grace and generosity. Not only am I a genuine admirer and loyal consumer of both of their fantastic products, but they also made my lifelong dream of seeing Kenny Loggins perform live a glorious reality. This trip was an absolute dream come true, blending professional collaboration with personal joy in the most spectacular setting imaginable.

Nantucket Travel Guide: Exploring with Lorissa's Kitchen and Real Simple

Our Nantucket escapade, though brief, was packed with unforgettable moments. I won’t sugarcoat it; the journey to the island presented its fair share of travel challenges, including a few lost bags, frustrating delays, and even some missed connecting flights. Despite these minor hiccups, our spirits remained undeterred, and we were absolutely determined to make the most of our delightful weekend on the island. For our stay, we settled into an absolutely charming Air BnB, which served as a cozy base. However, our meticulously planned schedule meant we didn’t spend much time indoors, as our days and evenings were thoughtfully filled with engaging activities. Lorissa’s Kitchen and Real Simple Magazine outdid themselves, hosting a series of truly epic dinners and brunches that showcased the island’s culinary prowess. We even carved out a delightful half-day to wander and explore the enchanting downtown area of Nantucket, soaking in its unique atmosphere and historical beauty.

On a quick but important side note: the humidity in Nantucket was absolutely incredible! That was one aspect of the island I was entirely unprepared for. Nantucket, you truly bring the heat and the moisture! It was a constant reminder of the island’s vibrant summer climate, adding a unique, albeit sweaty, dimension to our exploration.

Dinner + Drinks at Brant Point Grill Bar/White Elephant

Rosé all day, every day! I couldn’t be happier that rosé continues to trend as one of the most popular summer beverages, especially given its perfect crispness and refreshing qualities on a hot and humid Nantucket afternoon. Our first evening began with Real Simple Magazine graciously hosting an exquisite dinner and drinks reception at the renowned Brant Point Grill Bar, nestled within the luxurious White Elephant Hotel. And what did I choose to kick off the evening with? You guessed it – a perfectly chilled glass of rosé! For my main course, I savored a truly delicious poached fish dish, expertly prepared and bursting with fresh, local flavors. To conclude this delightful meal, I indulged in a rich, creamy cheesecake. After all, when in Rome, or rather, when on Nantucket, one must fully embrace the local culinary delights and experiences!

Brunch at Galley Beach

Saturday morning commenced with an invigorating, albeit challenging, workout session under the blazing 90-degree-plus Nantucket sun. It was an experience that was “fun” for about twenty minutes before the humidity truly began to take its toll! Thankfully, the promise of a sumptuous brunch immediately following served as excellent motivation. We headed to the exquisite Galley Beach, an establishment famed for its stunning beachfront location and delectable menu. Boy, was I ready for a strong iced coffee to cool down and a hearty omelette to refuel! The thought of those delicious carbs and comforting potatoes kept me going through the last reps. This restaurant was undeniably adorable; we were seated just a few feet from the shimmering waters of a beautiful beach, allowing us to enjoy the gentle sea breeze and picturesque views while savoring our meal. It was a truly lovely time spent with the fantastic teams from Real Simple and Lorissa’s Kitchen, sharing stories and laughter in such an idyllic setting.

Can I just pause for a moment to truly express my profound love for carbohydrates, especially potatoes? My devotion is so strong that I honestly believe I could never commit to a paleo diet for that exact reason – the sheer joy of a perfectly cooked potato is simply irreplaceable! Galley Beach perfectly understood this sentiment, offering an array of delicious options. The ambiance of dining with our toes almost in the sand, gazing out at the serene ocean, created an atmosphere of pure relaxation and joy. It was a perfect setting to connect with the incredible teams from Real Simple and Lorissa’s Kitchen, forging stronger bonds over good food and even better company.

Ice Cream at The Juice Bar

Following our delightful Saturday brunch, we were granted a glorious four-hour window to freely explore the charming streets of Nantucket. Without a doubt, the one place repeatedly recommended by both our avid readers and numerous friendly locals was The Juice Bar. This unique establishment offers an irresistible combination: it’s both a refreshing juice bar and an incredibly charming ice cream shop. As many of you know, ice cream holds a special place in my heart as my absolute favorite dessert, and I simply never, ever pass up an opportunity to indulge. Imagine my delight when I discovered they featured pistachio on their menu – my all-time favorite flavor! A quick tip for future visitors: be prepared for rapid melting, as my cone began to liquefy in approximately 20 seconds flat due to the island heat. And yes, this photograph, with my hair inevitably in my face, is precisely how about 99% of my vacation pictures turn out, capturing the raw, authentic moments of my adventures!

Drinks at Slip 14

After our sweet treat adventure at The Juice Bar, the intense Nantucket humidity reminded us that serious hydration was in order. Naturally, this meant both water (and plenty of it – I don’t think I’ve ever consumed so much water in my life!) and a refreshing cocktail. We made our way towards the beach, seeking out a super cute bar and restaurant called Slip 14. Their drink menu was absolutely on point, boasting a fantastic selection of creative concoctions. I opted for a classic mojito, but with my personal twist: sans simple syrup. That’s the only way I prefer my mojitos – a clean, fresh taste without the added sweetness, allowing the mint and lime to truly shine. It was the perfect revitalizing stop before preparing for the evening’s main event.

By this point in the afternoon, it was nearing 3 o’clock, signaling that it was time for my second shower of the day. I’m genuinely not exaggerating when I say I have never experienced such profuse sweating in my entire life! The Nantucket heat and humidity were relentless, making cool showers a truly cherished necessity. After freshening up and changing into our evening attire, we were ready for the pinnacle of our trip: the Boston Pops on Nantucket event.

The Main Event: Boston Pops on Nantucket

The Boston Pops on Nantucket was celebrating its monumental 20th anniversary, and they truly pulled out all the stops for a spectacular celebration. This annual gathering serves as the single largest and most vital fundraiser for the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, playing a crucial role in supporting the island’s healthcare services. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from an event of this magnitude, but I was utterly blown away by the sheer grandeur and joyful atmosphere. It was essentially an enormous, elegant beach party, featuring the magnificent musical talents of the Boston Pops orchestra, culminating in a jaw-dropping performance by the legendary Kenny Loggins. Truly, an “OMG DREAM” moment for me! As honored guests of Lorissa’s Kitchen, one of the event’s key sponsors, we were granted exclusive access to the VIP tent, which was a haven of culinary delights. The tent offered an abundance of incredible appetizers and sophisticated drinks, with an impressive array of fresh seafood and nuanced flavors presented in delectable small bites. We naturally spent a good portion of our time at the Lorissa’s Kitchen booth, where they were expertly showcasing their high-protein snacks paired perfectly with fine wines and artisan cheeses, a true testament to their brand’s versatility.

Boston Pops on Nantucket: VIP Experience with Lorissa's Kitchen

The main event commenced promptly at 7 PM. Inside the VIP section, approximately twenty elegant round-tables were set, while behind us, a sea of over 10,000 enthusiastic attendees gathered on the beach, all ready to enjoy the magnificent show. The food served was absolutely superb; we had the pleasure of indulging in both succulent lobster and perfectly cooked steak, a true feast for the senses. However, the real magic of the evening was undoubtedly listening to the glorious sounds of the Boston Pops, followed by the electrifying performance of my main man, Kenny Loggins. Please tell me you’re a fan too! Davida, one of my blogging besties, and I shared an incredible, almost surreal moment when we realized we knew every single word to the same song. Growing up, both of our fathers would frequently play “House at Pooh Corner,” a song that held immense nostalgic value for both of us. We had a mini freak-out, overcome with emotion, when we realized how deeply this particular song resonated with our shared childhood memories. To our absolute delight and utter amazement, Kenny Loggins ended up playing that very song, allowing Vids and me to have our truly authentic, emotional fan-girl moment. We may or may not have abandoned our seats, making our way directly to the front of the stage, metaphorically armed with lighters held high. Okay, no actual lighters were involved, but we definitely engaged in some serious, unadulterated fan-girling right there in front of the stage, singing along with every fiber of our being. The unforgettable night culminated in a breathtaking display of glorious fireworks, illuminating the ocean with vibrant colors and spectacular bursts. It was an absolutely epic and truly perfect conclusion to an extraordinary evening, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.

Overall, my experience on Nantucket was overwhelmingly positive and filled with joyous discoveries. Despite the minor oversight of forgetting my polo shirt at home – a quintessential Nantucket accessory, it seemed – everyone we encountered was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The island clearly offers a wealth of activities and sights to explore, from its charming downtown to its serene beaches and vibrant cultural events. It’s an island that truly captures your heart with its unique blend of history, beauty, and warmth. Until next time, Nan-Tucket. (If you happen to follow me on Snapchat, you’ll certainly understand that playful reference!). This trip solidified Nantucket as a destination I yearn to revisit, promising more adventures and delightful experiences.
