Nestled in Minnetrista, MN, approximately 35 miles west of Minneapolis, this family-owned orchard offers an idyllic escape into the heart of fall.

It had been far too long since I carved out dedicated time for a memorable outing with my favorite ladies. So, a few of us decided to seize the afternoon, heading west to Minnetonka Orchards. Our mission? To gather an abundance of freshly grown apples, savor crisp apple cider, and, of course, indulge in some delightful photo opportunities. Spending time with Brooke is always a creative adventure; she possesses an incredible knack for finding beauty and charm in every setting, transforming even the most ordinary backdrop into something truly special. Kate, affectionately known as @KateWCCO, is my esteemed reporter friend who also doubles as my invaluable confidante and therapist. The wonderful coincidence of her and Brooke being great friends made our group dynamic simply perfect for a day of laughter, connection, and making cherished memories.

This vibrant fruit thrives in our local climate, and the difference in taste when it’s freshly picked and locally grown is simply unparalleled. Minnetonka Orchards provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic date, a fun-filled girls’ day out, or a wholesome family adventure. Beyond just apple picking, the beautiful grounds also serve as an exquisite venue for hosting parties, and even weddings, offering a picturesque setting for life’s most special moments.

Minnetonka Orchards boasts an impressive variety of apples, each with its distinct flavor profile and culinary applications. From the delightfully crisp Sweet Tango and the early-season Zestar to the incredibly popular Honeycrisp and the tart Haralson, there’s an apple for every palate. The orchard operates seven days a week, opening its gates at 10 AM, and admission is free, making it an accessible outing for everyone. Spanning a generous 12 acres, the orchard features both ‘U-Pick’ trees, inviting visitors to hand-select their perfect apples, and convenient pre-picked bags for those on the go. Adding to its charm, Minnetonka Orchards has been a proud family-owned and operated establishment since 1972, a testament to its enduring legacy and commitment to quality. Our visit perfectly coincided with the peak of the fall foliage, approximately two weeks prior, and the scenery was nothing short of breathtaking. The weather was ideally crisp – cool enough for comfortable jeans, yet mild enough for a light t-shirt, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the outdoor beauty. Naturally, I couldn’t resist purchasing a bag of Honeycrisp apples, my absolute favorite variety for crafting the ultimate apple crisp. Speaking of apple crisp, it is, without a doubt, the quintessential fall dessert to create at home. Why, you ask? Because it provides the perfect, guilt-free excuse to indulge in a generous scoop (or two!) of vanilla ice cream. The warm, spiced apples paired with the cold, creamy ice cream create a dessert experience that truly captures the essence of autumn.

After leisurely strolling through rows of apple trees and enjoying a nostalgic swing on the tire swing, we made our way to the tree deck. From this elevated vantage point, we soaked in the spectacular panoramic views of the changing leaves, a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. While I was a little disappointed that the Brat House wasn’t open during our visit (a true Wisconsin girl at heart, I always appreciate a good brat!), the overall experience of soaking in the natural splendor more than made up for it.
