Taking the Plunge

Last night, a particular quote I stumbled upon on Instagram resonated deeply with me, striking a chord that echoed much of my own career journey and personal philosophy. It was a simple yet profound statement that often gets overlooked in our relentless pursuit of a singular life’s calling.

If you can't find your purpose, find your passion and your purpose will come.

This idea – that purpose often emerges from the vibrant pursuit of passion – has been a guiding light in my life, especially over the past five years. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been what many might call a “multi-passionate” individual, someone whose interests span across a wide and often seemingly disparate spectrum. This multifaceted nature, while enriching, has often led to a challenging internal debate about where my true “purpose” lies, constantly questioning if I was on the right path.

Embracing a Multitude of Passions

My academic and extracurricular paths have always reflected this broad range of interests. During my college years, I found myself torn between the creative and structured world of Design School and the more analytical, science-focused fields like Nutrition or Exercise Science. This wasn’t a new struggle; it mirrored my high school experience where I balanced the intense demands of varsity sports with the creative expression found in AP Art. Back then, my younger self often felt a certain pressure, an unspoken expectation that it wasn’t “okay” to excel in so many diverse, even contradictory, areas. I tried to force myself to pick just one, believing that true success lay in intense specialization, a singular dedication to a single craft or field.

This societal narrative, which often champions the expert, the specialist, and the singular focus, can be incredibly limiting. We are frequently led to believe that to be respected, to truly succeed, one must become an unparalleled authority in a very specific niche. I vividly recall the early days of starting my blog three years ago. At that time, I was absolutely convinced that pursuing culinary school was a non-negotiable step. My reasoning was simple: if I ever hoped to make a mark in the competitive food industry, I needed the formal credentials, the higher education, the official qualification. Without it, I feared my work wouldn’t be taken seriously; my voice wouldn’t carry the weight I believed it needed to command respect and trust from my audience and peers.

The Power of the Self-Taught Creator

Yet, with time and experience, my perspective began to shift dramatically. Today, I’ve come to a profound realization: there is immense value, genuine skill, and undeniable credibility in the self-taught amateur – whether they’re a baker, a cook, a photographer, or any other creative. The narrative of the autodidact, someone who masters their craft through sheer passion, relentless practice, and an insatiable curiosity, is incredibly compelling and often more relatable to an audience. Many of the most inspiring and successful bloggers I follow are precisely that: self-taught visionaries who built their empires from the ground up.

These individuals often embarked on their journeys believing they had a certain purpose, only to discover their true passion – often in areas like innovative recipe creation, captivating food styling, or professional-grade photography – and subsequently transform that passion into a thriving business. They are living proof that formal qualifications are not always a prerequisite for excellence or commercial success. Names like Oh She Glows, Edible Perspective, and Peas and Thank You immediately come to mind. These pioneering bloggers built remarkable businesses from their kitchens, sharing their unique perspectives and delicious creations, demonstrating that authenticity, genuine enthusiasm, and raw talent are far more powerful than any traditional diploma. Their success stories underscore the evolving landscape of career paths, where digital platforms empower individuals to carve out their own niches based on dedication, skill, and heartfelt passion.

Fit Foodie Finds: A Passion Project Evolves into a Career

Roughly two years into my blogging career, a pivotal realization struck me: my beloved Fit Foodie Finds wasn’t just a “little blog” anymore. It had the potential to be much more; it could, in fact, be my actual career. This wasn’t just a fleeting thought; it was an epiphany born from countless hours of dedicated work, creative exploration, and genuine connection with my audience. The truth is, when you are truly passionate about what you do, that passion radiates through every piece of content, every photograph, every recipe. People notice. They are drawn to that energy, that authenticity, that infectious love for the craft. It becomes abundantly clear that your most passionate work is invariably your best work, because it comes from a place of deep fulfillment and genuine interest.

The journey from hobby to profession, however, involved more than just passion; it required strategic effort and a keen understanding of the burgeoning online economy. I began to diversify and build multiple income streams around Fit Foodie Finds, meticulously cultivating it into a sustainable business. Through a combination of ad revenue generated from increasing website traffic, carefully selected sponsored posts that aligned perfectly with my brand values, and freelance content creation for other reputable brands within the health and wellness space, I started to build a steady and reliable income. This was a truly exhilarating development. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that something as enjoyable, as energizing, and as personally fulfilling as blogging and content creation could evolve into my full-time career. And today, I am absolutely thrilled and immensely grateful to announce that it has.

Taking the Leap: A New Chapter Begins

This past Friday marked a monumental step in this transformative journey: I officially submitted my two weeks’ notice at Anytime Fitness HQ. This decision was driven by an overwhelming desire to dedicate more focused time and creative energy to scaling Fit Foodie Finds, expanding its reach, and exploring new avenues for growth and innovation. Additionally, this transition will allow me the flexibility to increase my hours teaching Group Fitness and Yoga Sculpt – two areas of physical wellness that I am deeply passionate about and which perfectly complement my online brand and holistic approach to health. The beauty of this transition is amplified by the incredible support I’ve received from Anytime Fitness. They have been exceptionally understanding and encouraging of my entrepreneurial endeavors, demonstrating a genuine commitment to their employees’ personal and professional growth. I am incredibly fortunate that they are allowing me to stay on in a part-time capacity, maintaining a valuable connection.

Anytime Fitness holds a special place in my heart; it’s a brand and a community that I genuinely don’t want to leave entirely. Their core values, particularly “Passion and Purpose,” resonate deeply with my own beliefs and aspirations. These are two foundational elements that I believe everyone should actively seek in their career, as they are crucial for sustained satisfaction and success. My time at Anytime Fitness has been invaluable, providing me with extensive exposure to various sectors of the health and fitness industry. This experience was instrumental in helping me further refine and discover my true passions within the field: innovative, health-conscious recipe creation and dynamic, engaging group fitness instruction. The synergy between my work at Anytime Fitness and Fit Foodie Finds has been undeniable, allowing me to cultivate a holistic approach to health and wellness that I can now share even more broadly and authentically.

Addressing the Inevitable Question

I can almost hear the thoughts forming in your minds. Just a short while ago, I enthusiastically shared my incredible journey of securing a full-time position at Anytime Fitness Headquarters, detailing how much I genuinely enjoyed working for such a vibrant and impactful organization. And indeed, all of that was unequivocally true. My appreciation for Anytime Fitness, its mission, and its supportive environment remains unwavering. However, this new chapter isn’t about abandoning something I loved; it’s about embracing an extraordinary opportunity to pursue my deepest dreams with an even greater focus and intensity, aligning my daily work more fully with my ultimate vision. The remarkable aspect of this transition is that I am able to embark on this entrepreneurial path with the continued support and encouragement of an organization that truly embodies heart and genuinely desires to see its employees succeed, both within their walls and beyond. This is not a departure but an evolution, a testament to growth, self-discovery, and the courageous pursuit of a more aligned and fulfilling future.

A Leap of Faith and a Future Unfolding

Even now, as I pen these words, a slight sense of disbelief washes over me, a lingering shock that I, at the age of 23, had the courage and conviction to take such a significant leap of faith. Yet, this feeling is overwhelmingly overshadowed by an immense excitement and anticipation for what the future holds. The past six months have been a whirlwind of meticulous planning, strategic execution, and unwavering determination. This ambitious plan wouldn’t have come to fruition without the steadfast support of my incredible family, especially Blake, who has been an absolute pillar of encouragement every step of the way. Their unwavering belief in me, even when I sometimes doubted myself, provided the essential fuel I needed to see this vision through. To each and every one of you who has cheered me on, offered invaluable advice, or simply believed in the potential of Fit Foodie Finds, my deepest and most heartfelt thanks go out to you.

This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, a testament to the idea that passion truly can lead to profound purpose. While there are undoubtedly more developments and stories yet to unfold, for now, I wanted to share this significant milestone with all of you. It’s a testament to the notion that sometimes, the most challenging decisions lead to the most rewarding and authentic paths, especially when those paths are paved with genuine passion and a clear vision. I promise to share more as other exciting aspects of this journey play out, but until then, I leave you with a profound thought that continues to inspire my every step and shapes the foundation of my evolving career:

Do what you love and you'll love what you do.
